There are even striking renovations such as Deutsche Banks overhaul of its headquarters in Frankfurt, which has cut heat use by a third and electricity use by more than half. But the fact remains that these are exceptions, and energy efficiency is still a sleeping giant. Its greatest potential lies in the building sector, above all in renovating existing buildings, but this potential is underexploited.
